Doctors of Physical Therapy

Dr. Sung Kim, PT, DPT, TPI-Certified graduated from California State University, Northridge in 2003 with his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Athletic Training. He continued to pursue his education and develop his training by earning his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Southern California in May 2007. As a former athlete, he has extensive experience and understanding of sports-related injuries and what it takes to return his patients back to doing what they love. High school and collegiate athletes, weekend warriors, ballet dancers, military personnel, and even professional athletes have benefited from Dr. Kim’s treatment approach to restore their functional capabilities. Dr. Kim specializes in treating patients with hip and knee pain, as well as most common shoulder injuries. Dr. Kim strongly believes in a holistic approach to treating the person, not just the injury or diagnosis. He utilizes every avenue of treatment available, including manual therapy, joint mobilization techniques, therapeutic exercises, modalities, kinesiotape, and most importantly, patient education.  As a Southern California native, Dr. Kim enjoys numerous outdoor activities such as hiking, swimming, playing volleyball, basketball, snowboarding, and mountain biking.

Dr. Thomas Lin, PT, DPT graduated from the University of California, San Diego with his Bachelor of Arts in Human Development in 2001. His participation on the university track and field team, and interest in injury rehabilitation led him to pursue an education in physical therapy. He went on to graduate from the University of Southern California with his Doctorate of Physical Therapy in May 2006. Dr. Lin has substantial training and continuing education with HVLA (High Velocity, Low Amplitude) techniques for treatment of spine-related disorders and injuries. He employs a wide variety of manual therapy techniques and corrective exercise programs to treat neck and back pain. Dr. Lin also specializes in treating patients with TMJ dysfunction and headaches, having received continuing education from the University of Southern California. For over 10 years, Dr. Lin has treated patients in the San Fernando Valley and in the process, has developed a strong relationship with many healthcare professionals and physicians in the area. During his free time, Dr. Lin enjoys running, playing basketball, and exercising with his wife. He also likes to spend time taking his children to the park and story time at the library.

Dr. Leroy Velasco, PT, DPT graduated from the University of California, Riverside with his Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences in 2011. He then spent several years broadening his experience and exposure to physical therapy and rehabilitation by working as the Lead Exercise Specialist at a local physical therapy clinic. Dr. Velasco then decided that he wanted to pursue his passion and education by earning his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine in San Diego in 2017. His clinical interests and specialty included working with various orthopedic conditions, sports-related injuries and pathological conditions of the foot and ankle. He plans on furthering his skills and technique by earning his Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) certification and becoming a member of the Institute of Physical Arts. Dr. Velasco is very excited to join the team at BASE Training and Physical Therapy and is looking forward to working with the surrounding community. In his free time, Dr. Velasco enjoys surfing, biking, playing tennis, soccer, and golf, and participate in rock climbing.  

 

Dr. Samantha Ruby, PT, DPT graduated from Lycoming College in Pennsylvania in 2010 with her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a Minor in Biology.  She discovered her passion for injury rehabilitation through her athletic background in basketball at the high school and collegiate levels, as she utilized her personal drive and compassion to return to the court following numerous knee injuries.  After gaining experience as a physical therapy aide, she went on to earn her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Thomas Jefferson University in 2013.  Since graduating, she has expanded her skill-set through years of experience in a Level 1 trauma center, where she worked with neurological, orthopedic, post-surgical, cardiac, and generalized weakness diagnoses, amongst others. She received advanced training in LSVT- BIG to better serve individuals diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and was part of a pilot team that introduced physical therapy services into the Emergency Department setting.  Her clinical interests include combining her wide variety of skills from each setting to provide every patient she meets with an individualized and holistic approach that specifically targets his or her goals. She is also a 200+ hour certified yoga instructor and enjoys combining her yoga background with her education in rehabilitation.  In her free time, Dr. Ruby enjoys hiking, doing yoga, running, biking, and taking advantage of all the sunshine that her recent move to California provides.  She is very excited to join the team at BASE Training and Physical Therapy and is looking forward to sharing her expertise with the surrounding community.

Personal Trainer

Monica Lin, NSCA-CPT discovered her passion for health and wellness at a young age through her involvement with basketball and track and field. After obtaining her BA in Psychology from Cal Poly Pomona in 2003, Monica used her education to explore the benefits of fitness on overall mental health. She studied Fitness Training at UCLA Extension in 2004 and worked as a personal trainer on a popular reality television series. Monica's work as a Physical Therapy Aide further fueled her interest in working with people to achieve their physical health goals. Monica prioritizes creating an individualized plan for each person that embraces their body type and specific fitness goals.  People of all ages, genders, and fitness levels are able to benefit from her training programs. Monica trains at Level 2 in Krav Maga, the official self-defense and fighting system of U.S. law enforcement agencies. She is an avid runner, and has competed in various marathons and half marathons over the last 10 years.

Jessell Martinez graduated from California State University, Northridge in 2013 with her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. In college, she became involved with the "Let's Move!" Initiative to promote a healthy future for children during their earliest stages of life and plans to further her education by earning her Masters in Health Administration. With multiple years of customer service and healthcare admitting experience, Jessell found her passion: to help, educate, and motivate others. Jessell also handles insurance billing in our office. And despite all the hoops she must jump through to get some of our insurance claims paid, Jessell truly enjoys her job. Outside of the office, you will find Jessell planning events, traveling, and walking her two dogs, Louie and Maddox.

Kirstine Donato

Kirstine is a San Fernando Valley native who graduated from California State University, Northridge in 2017 with her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. In the near future, Kirstine would like to further her education and experiences by earning a Masters Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Healthcare Management. In her free time, she likes to run, go on hikes with her friends, take her husky on walks, and travel abroad.

Ranah Elzaiat

Ranah graduated from California State University, Northridge in 2018 with her 
Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Exercise Science. 
She plans on continuing her education to earn a Masters degree in Athletic 
Training. In the meantime, Ranah currently volunteers at Glendale Community 
College as a student athletic trainer and aspires to be an Athletic Trainer
 for a professional team one day. In her free time, she enjoys trying out new food, 
 boxing, and spending her days at the beach.

Tyler Fukumoto

Tyler graduated from California State University, Fullerton in 2016 with his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. Tyler has always been an avid sports enthusiast and enjoys playing a wide variety of sports. Throughout his educational career, he has competitively participated in basketball, volleyball, and baseball. Currently, Tyler is pursuing a career in physical therapy, and enjoys snowboarding in his free time.

Rianne Magnabijon

Rianne graduated from California State University, Northridge in 2016 with her Bachelors of Science Degree in Kinesiology. She joined the team at BASE shortly afterwards and is currently pursuing her degree in Nursing. She hopes that she can continue to help people feel better and reach their optimal health by becoming a nurse. In her spare time, she enjoys participating in a variety of different sports, including basketball, volleyball, hiking, and snowboarding

Amanda Steiner, NREMT

Physical Therapy Aide

Amanda graduated from California State University, Northridge in 2016 with her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with an Emphasis in Dance. Amanda has been dancing since the age of 3, and competitively throughout her high school and college career. Amanda works as a dance instructor and enjoys sharing her passion of dance with all her students. Amanda hopes to continue her career of helping people by becoming a Pediatric Physical Therapist.

Jasmine Aquino

Jasmine received her Associates Degree in General Science and Liberal Arts at Santa Monica College. She previously worked as a Companion Care Volunteer for Geriatrics Unit at The UCLA Medical Center for several years. Jasmine plans to become a Gerontology Nurse and is currently working on her EMT certification. In her free time she enjoys hiking, yoga, and spending time with her corgi, Pepper.

Winston Hsieh

Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Winston received his Bachelor's with Distinction in Biology from UCLA in 2018. During his undergraduate career, Winston organized several free health clinics for low-income and homeless communities in Inglewood and Compton. When he's not playing basketball or Spikeball, Winston is actively pursuing his career as a Physician Assistant.

Stephanie Tate

Stephanie graduated from California State University, Northridge in 2017 with her Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Applied Fitness. During her college career, she volunteered with 3 WINS Fitness where she lead free exercise programs for the low-income geriatric communities. Stephanie also aspires to become a Physical Therapist. In her free time, she enjoys running, playing basketball and spending time with family and friends.

Kevin Pontonuwu

Kevin is currently attending California State University, Northridge to pursue his Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology. He is entering his 11th year competing in Track and Field at the division 1/ post-collegiate level and currently holds a USATF Level 1 Coaching Certification. After gaining knowledge about managing injuries throughout his athletic career, he aspires to become a physical therapist to help others get back to doing what they love and beyond. In his free time, he loves to eat, clean, detail cars, weight train and travel.

Audrey Keim

Born and raised in Colorado, Audrey is currently attending Pepperdine University in Malibu and is expected to earn her Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine this spring. She is currently volunteering for Be The Match which manages the largest and most diverse marrow registry in the world. Audrey is pursuing a career as a Medical Doctor and plans to specialize in Emergency Services or Oncology. In her free time, she enjoys reading, hiking, skiing, and tutoring organic chemistry.
